Elegy

I for one, specifically for a woman, it's all about men's fantasy.

David (Ben Kingsley) has a fulfilled life.
As a professor, he teaches what he has been engaged in.
His house is filled with his favorite artworks or picturebooks.

He doen't seem to be a sociable person, but he has a buddy
whom he can tell almost everything on his mind.
Not only a good pal, he also has a casual sex partner for 20 years while he's divorced.
What else do you want in your life?
It was flesh of young and beautiful lady. So cliche !!

Then, there she is.
Consuela (penelope Cruz), who attends one of his lectures,
captures his attention like crazy.
I was speechlessly stunned when she first appeared on the screen.
Needless to say, she's a gorgeous latin beauty, but she looked much more beautiful than ever with a pure white shirt on,
and with her bangs.

They're romantically involved in a while. Before getting into an intimate relationship, David narrates his feeling, how much he's craving for her and her body, which is a bit gross to me.
One day Consuela invites David to her graduation party,
which means he has to meet her family.
He's terribly afraid of being thought he's too old for her and he barely says "Yes" after a tons of hesitation.
But on that day, he calls her, like "I can't make it. I'm involved in an traffic accident."
You know it's not a true.
WTF !! So self-centered !!

This leads their estrangement for 2 years.
But one out-of-the-blue message from Consuela on his machine makes their connection resumed. It turns out not to be necessarily pleasant one, though.
Consuela has tumor in her breast and needs surgery.
Lump in her boob. It really matters.
Not her lung, not stomach, not brain...
She asks Davis to take pics of her breasts and he says OK...

David visits her at the hospital and responds, "I'm here." climbing into the bed when Consuela says "I'll miss you."
He seems satisfied with what he did for her.
Maybe their relationship would go on for relatively a long time,
like this way.

He doesn't say "I'm here FOR YOU."
I guess this reflects exactly who he is like.

It's not a kind of a film that I want to watch again.
Except Penelope in immaculate white shirt ;-)

GG Award memorial party !!

I attended a party last week.
It was a banquet that required me to dress formally with any of golden accessories because it was the "Golden" Globe Award memorial party.
I had to purchase almost everything to dress me up, such as heels, clutch bag and even dress.
No way I have something chic and elegant attires. I'm a kind of a tomboy wearing hoodie and baggy jeans every day ;-)

Luckily enough, I was able to get all within my budget, which was extremely limited, as you know. Think I'm a smart shopper !

Well-chilled Moet had been served on the table all though the party.
Sooooo good !! Never had Moet. It was awesome.
I relished it so much. Thx, AXN. Still can't believe all for free.

Of course food and desert were there.
But no carbo, even slices of bread or anything. Why? Is it normal? Not sure...

Anyway, I grabbed some bite of it after the party nad headed for the club. Wonder when my next night-out would be... Maybe 2011??

(500) Days of Summer

It's a romantic comedy of a pure-hearted guy called Tom.
The film goes sporadically backward and forward during his destined (Only he thinks so ;-) but unfulfilled relationship with Summer.
This no-chronological method is used on psychological suspense films or crime ones and all that, most of the time in order to make people perplexed and earn their attention till the end.
But not usual for romance movies like this.
Only this point is unique.

"Summer", it was "the O.C" when I first bumped into a girl named Summer, played by Rachel Bilson.
Weird ! Isn't it supposed to be just a word of describing season?? That's how I felt at that time.
But now, this is the second time.
Thus, can I take it this is an ordinary girl's name?

There is one day among 500 that Tom and Summer attend the wedding of their co-worker. You hear " At Last" behind the scene. Damn, I almost sang with that, nope, actrually I did, coz I love this song so much!

I was deeply touched when I listened to this song for the ffirst time. It was Obama's inauguratiom party, there Beyonce sang for his dance with Michel.

Tom works for a greeting card company as a writer, for real? It's a little bit temptating for me who like to do wordsmithing although messages on cards are all BS, that are no realistic, useless at all !! I don't need crappy pep-talk !This is almost the same as what Tom says when he quits the company. Totally agree.

The fim was shoot in L.A But I assumed it was New York or somewhere in the East Coast. Buildings in the film looked European-chic and not much sunshine scenes. Maybe L.A has some historical areas... donno, never been there. Speaking of architecture, cubicles in their office are woodtone and they are nice. Wanna work there!

Joseph Golden-Levitts playingTom, resembles a bit Heath Ledger...

Launch Spanish learning!!

One thing that rejoiced me the most in 2009 occurred in the Big Apple when I had to stay overnight for my connection flight to Tokyo from JM.

I immediately noticed my taxi driver and his assistant guy were Hispanic by a language they were speaking each other.
I really wanted to talk to them in Spanish while my vocabulary was extremely limited.
My brain was desperately struggling to find Spanish words that seemed cool and would make them laugh.

In time the car stopped in the front of the airport hotel we were going to stay.
I was, like being stading on the edge of a cliff, no time left at all, and finally this poped up out of my mouth in a loud voice when I was just about to put my one foot on the ground from the car.

" Muchas gracias! "

They looked a bit surpriced but gave me biiiiig smiles !!
What an experience !
I was so exhausted and a bit under the weather, actually.
But it's gone, it has, totally!!

Come to think of it,
I might had fogotten pleasure of making myself understood in a foreign language even if it was just a greeting word...

Like this way, I've just taken up learning Spanish.
Luckily, I have a tutor, Linda. Totally indivisual contract.
My English, it was crazily a long way to come up to here,
so I'll take it slow.
Hope to understand survival travel Spanish by this fall.

BTW, the first thing I did once stepping into the room was, Chinese delivery order !!! Almost every American TV drama has a scenes of munching away paper-made boxed Chinese on the bed or couch... so I wanted to try.Hahaha.
It was yummy and I was happy.

3-day weekend

It has been a fixed idea in the world for decades that Japanese overwork and take quite a short holidays.
It's NOT true. Here's what I'm feeling.
We just take our day offs sporadically.
It's not at all like week-to-week getaway like some Europeans,
let's say French if I may pinpoint.
But we are officially provided a plenty of 3 day-weekends, instead.
Some are spontaneously formed and some are deliverately.
How many bank holidays do you have in a year?
Eventually we have holidays just as much as any others in the globe and it's adequate, I think.

Well, my 3-day weekends.
I spend most of the time in Shizuoka so that I can fulfill my craving for our dog, Chikuwa.
Besides I wanna check up on my grandma if she's fine.

I take a walk with Chikuwa, eat with Chikuwa, watch TV with Chikuwa and sleep together.

Chikuwa, you're the apple of my eye (^ะท^)-☆Chu!!

Cool Runnings

Have you ever watched a movie shot in JM?
I have. It's "Cool Runnings" !
It's a comedy of Jamaican national Bobsled teams debut at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. And half-based on the true story.
Track and field guys who disqualified for summer Olympic in Seoul, try the most top-lebeled sports event in the world somehow or other in a completely different play from they've been involved.

Actors don't have as strong Patwan dialect as I had been exposed to during my getaway in JM last autumn. But I recognized quite a typical phrase "Yah man" several times in the film.

Actually, I had been wondering if Jamaican women also use this often since it includes a word of "man" literally. Then I asked one local guy. Yes, they do! Yah man !!

Miss JM, miss this paradise that I stayed like crazy...

Year-end MMA event

I used to be a huge MMA fan.
I'm not entirely rekindled, but I watched some of fights thoroughly.
These two stunned me.

I dare not to mention Aoki's polemic on-ring performance
after the fight.
I duly know no one who visit here won't be interested and I'm sick and tired of talking about sportsmanship or something like that.
It can be a bit hypocritical sometimes, I think...

His ground techniques are absolutely top-notch !! It turns me on.
You'll never get yourself out once you're trapped by his long & flexible legs on the ground.

Another fight impressed me.
Gono is a man of eloquence, especially about girls;-),
which I like him about.
I understand he's been doing a bunch of boxing training for years and it seems to have paid off, totally.
I love that flow toward arm lock cross hold he made the fight finalized with. So beautiful!!
One thing that disappointed me is,
"Mach" was obviously not in good shape.
I noticed it at first sight.
He didn't seem to be well prepared for this match.
He was not ripped up enough like he used to be.

I've been aware of some people hate MMA, pro-wrestling and all that.
But I'm proud of myself being able to appreciate thing like that
as well as other sports that I like.
